The Good, The Bad and …the UGLY!

I took a moment to brush off a very thick layer of saw dust to tease you with this picture!

Normally I like to post the before and after pictures but this one has such a story to it that I knew a “During” picture would be fun!

Take in the untapped potential, give me a week to complete and I will fill you all in on what this Mid Century Secretary Desk taught me.  There is definitely a story here.

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

Try-Angles!

This Summer was a REAL whirl wind!   In a FLASH it was gone and here we are facing Fall.

One of my fun summer weekend projects was making an interesting conversation piece for my daughter’s 1st college apartment.

I found this very simple coffee table at a flea market and thought maybe she could utilize it in her new place. What she asked for was like nothing I had ever tackled before.

She said, “Mom, I want something different that encompasses geometric shapes and various shades of Aqua and Teal. Oh…and I would love it to be triangles.” Sure, easy, no problem was my answer but I had no idea what I was doing!

A couple of coats of dark grey to match her Ikea Futon was my starting point. After selecting the various shades of accent paint and a roll of painters tape I was ready to get creative. Let me just say, “FROG” tape, don’t even bother with any other type. I haven’t found one yet, other than Frog tape, that doesn’t bleed through.

After taping off my grid I was able to begin painting. It took 3 coats of paint on each triangle but I was satisfied with the way it turned out.

After allowing it to dry completely I sprayed it with 2 coats of clear finish to protect the surface.

She was really happy with the way it turned out and it has been a huge hit with her roommates and friends.

A nice reminder to never be afraid to try something new!
